I started decentre with what I thought was a clear intention to help queer artists in Atlantic Canada. But the more I work on it, the more I feel the project shifting.
I’m sure it’s clear that this blog is more of a personal blog than anything: I don’t purport to be an expert on queer art, but I can certainly try to articulate what it is I’m doing as a queer artist. And the more of these (somewhat) daily posts I write (jeeze Luke, what a content creator you are with your inconsistency!) the more I realize I have no concrete plan.
Yikes. One could easily chalk that up to a failure. And you know, maybe it is.
But however easy it might be to just walk away from this project, I don’t plan on quitting any time soon. I’ve been chiseling away at it for a few years now, and although the approach continues to change, the fundamental goal of helping artists remains the same. I’m realizing that that seems to be a common theme for us artists/creatives: the further we get into what we’re creating, the more we discover about it.
And if we noted everything as a failure and walked away from it, we’d never make any discoveries.
My blog started out as a public diary of sorts, then it evolved into a writing place. I think it’s pretty normal, and I wish you all the best on whatever direction you take this place in!
