In any creative environment, it’s important that each person feels seen and heard. The space of collaboration has to be expansive enough for each person’s contributions and for conversations of all kinds.
In my experience, people find it difficult to maintain that freedom, despite their best intentions. Obstacles to that state of fun collaboration will inevitably arise. But if a culture is implemented that encourages listening and open mindedness during those various forms of confusion and conflict, the group is more likely to find creative solutions. We need the authentic voices of all people in order to move toward success.
I’d say the same goes for individual work. If you’re creating something in solitude, it’s important to be kind to yourself. Listen to what you are actually trying to say, and try to avoid making assumptions about what you should be saying. True listening and empathy is crucial, even (especially?) when creating on our own.
