“What do you do when that person isn’t giving you what you want?”
Cool advice when there’s a standoff between people.
Unfortunately that advice is tainted for me because when someone said it to me they said it with vitriol: “Luke, you disrespected this person’s boundaries. What do you do when they’re not going to give you what you want?” The question was weighted with an unspoken, predetermined, “right” answer: “You back off, Luke. Don’t even bother answering. I’m just asking so that I can prove to you that you were wrong.”
But by itself, that question is nice.
Creatively, when we’re working on building something out of thin air, what do we do when we’re not getting what we want? When our ideas our opposed and we can’t see eye to eye?
